Each title begins with a high-interest situation in which the profiled species makes some noise. Then the simple text relates the details of the creatures’ habitat (including a map), diet, predators, daily routines, and homes. The author also includes information on environmental issues and contact with humans. The “Sound Check” at the end of every volume either describes the range of vocalizations the animal can make or compares its loudness (in decibels) to other sounds kids may have heard (e.g., a lawn mower, train engine, or airplane taking off).
