Dachshund
It’s 2007, and 12,000 spectators have turned out to watch a pack of wiener dogs compete for the title of “Fastest Wiener in the West!” Being dachshunds, many of the race’s participants choose to visit and play with their neighbors rather than compete. It doesn’t matter though, because they’re racing for a good cause—to raise money for charity.
In Dachshund: The Hot Dogger, readers will learn how the comic physical appearance and special personality that define the dachshund today were carefully developed from a group of German badger-hunting dogs that go back to the 1500s. The story of these little diggers will win over a whole new generation of kids and adults!

The Little Dogs Rock! series…contains books about small breeds, and what makes this series unique is its diverse, interesting information and the author’s captivating voice. In Dachshund: The Hot Dogger, for example, the text and photos explain how dachshunds were bred to ferret out dangerous badgers by courageously following them down their holes and confronting them in the dark underground. Subject matter addresses dachshund’s different sizes, coats, and colors, and includes photos and the obligatory information about their temperament and care. The book also includes information about the Wiener Nationals races with amazing action photos, and tie-ins with movie characters like Slinky in Toy Story and Itchy in All Dogs Go to Heaven. The book ends with information about “Wieners on Wheels,” such as Asher who was born with a deformed leg and now races with a custom-made wheel “chair.”
