Book Editor
Bearport Publishing is a leader in nonfiction books for grades K-5, with a focus on creating high-interest titles for beginning and struggling readers. Our print and digital titles combine compelling storytelling with outstanding photographs and artwork to create unique designs that engage young minds and help pave the way to reading success.
We are currently looking for a dynamic Editor to join our growing team. This position is immediate and will work with the Creative Team in the planning and production of Bearport’s books. Editing Bearport books requires contracting and managing freelance authors, editing and leveling manuscripts, reviewing layouts, writing title and series descriptions for marketing purposes, and collaborating with our designers to bring the books to life in print and digital formats. An editor should be able to adapt a manuscript for clarity, accessibility, accuracy, and compatibility with the visual elements.
Requirements:
• 3 years experience editing children’s books
• Experience with editing for reading level (ATOS, GRL, etc.) for elementary grades
• Excellent writing, editing, and proofing skills
• Good organization, self-management, and interpersonal skills
• Familiarity with education and curriculum requirements is desirable
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and experience with Microsoft Excel (Mac OS)
• Willingness to work hard and have fun in a small and growing company
