The Takedown of Osama Bin Laden
In the early morning of May 2, 2011, in the Pakistani city of Abbottabad, the famous Navy SEALs completed perhaps their most publicized mission ever—killing Osama bin Laden. This book begins with a perfunctory description of 9/11 to explain the motivation to eliminate bin Laden and also details bin Laden’s actions before the attacks, along with his connections to al-Qaeda. Potentially unfamiliar terms are bolded and defined in a glossary, while place-names are all written phonetically to aid in pronunciation. Photographs of the tools used by the Navy SEALs in their tactical mission, including their weapons, are detailed in the appendix. Considering that the political and diplomatic issues at hand are quite complicated, this book may be best suited for kids with an existing knowledge or interest in the topic. Yet, the accessible, high-interest story written in a simple narrative format makes it a good choice for struggling readers with a penchant for all things military.
