Way Cool Drinks

This nifty title opens with a comprehensive “getting started” page, including tips, safety reminders (Don’t put your hand in the blender, kids!), and a list of tools. Parents are encouraged to handle the chopping and cutting; however, this entry in the Yummy Tummy Recipes series is clearly designed for kids. All 14 recipes are easy to follow with little more than four or five listed steps, clearly defined serving sizes, and minimal prep time. A health tip and other cool facts are included with each recipe as well. The boldly colored drinks are featured on each page and have cool names like “Red Lava Volcano” and “Winter Wonder Punch.” For the most part these are smoothies, with their base in fruit and yogurt combinations, but there is also a summer slushie and a chocolate peanut-butter shake. Back matter includes a longer list of health tips that encourage future mixologists to read nutrition labels and make recipe substitutions with healthier options where necessary. A glossary, index, bibliography, and further reading materials are also provided.
